Safflower Butter – Refined / Refined Source Oil

RidhSa Lipids Safflower Butter – Refined / Refined Source Oil is a derived cosmetic butter formulated with refined safflower seed oil from Carthamus tinctorius and an identified structuring lipid system. Since safflower oil is liquid at room temperature, the finished butter consistency comes from blending with appropriate solid lipids or another validated structuring method, not from extraction of naturally solid safflower fat. Refined source oil generally offers a lighter colour and milder odour than virgin oil. High-oleic and conventional high-linoleic safflower oils differ in fatty-acid composition and oxidative behaviour, so the source grade should be specified.

The finished butter offers emollience and adjustable structure in balms, creams, body butters, lotion bars and hair-care products. RidhSa Lipids recommends verifying complete INCI, oil percentage, structurant identity, processing, oxidation limits and batch melting properties.

Overview

Botanical Name Carthamus tinctorius L. (safflower); seed oil
Cas# 8001-23-8 is commonly cited for safflower seed oil; the finished structured butter requires a formulation-specific ingredient list and SDS.
Colour White to ivory or pale cream, depending on the structuring system.
Method Of Extraction Oil is extracted from safflower seeds and refined through documented processes as applicable, such as degumming, neutralization, bleaching and deodorization. The refined oil is blended with specified structuring lipids and cooled into a semi-solid butter.
Constituents Safflower oil contains triglycerides rich in linoleic acid (conventional cultivars) or oleic acid (high-oleic cultivars), with smaller palmitic and stearic fractions. Finished butter also includes structuring lipids that change its overall composition and melting characteristics.
Solubility Insoluble in water; blends with compatible oils and molten fats; dispersion behaviour depends on the full formulation.
Specific Gravity No universal value for the structured finished butter; measure density at a defined temperature on the actual blend.
Flash Point Not routinely specified for the finished cosmetic butter; request a measured method-specific result if needed.

Benefits

Provides emollience, spreadability and skin conditioning; helps reduce moisture loss; the structuring system gives body and adjustable firmness to solid and semi-solid formulations.

Uses

Body butters, skin creams, lip balms, lotion bars, hand and foot balms, massage bars, hair conditioners, masks and customized cosmetic lipid blends.
How does refined-source safflower butter differ from virgin-source butter?
Refined oil usually has lighter colour and milder odour; both versions may require added structuring lipids.
Usually not. Safflower oil is naturally liquid, and a semi-solid butter commonly contains other lipids.
It may be; the supplier should confirm whether the oil is high-oleic or high-linoleic and provide a fatty-acid profile.
Not necessarily. Different structuring fats or processing technologies are possible; verify the complete formulation and INCI.
It can be considered where all ingredients meet the intended cosmetic requirements and finished-product stability and safety are assessed.
